Our Why: Time Freedom, Financial Independence, and Generational Wealth
At the heart of every goal is a powerful "why." For us, it's about achieving time freedom, financial independence, and creating generational wealth. I currently work full-time for a major corporation, but my ultimate aim is to become financially independent, working only by choice in the near future. This journey started with insightful discussions with my father and discovering “Rich Dad Poor Dad” on Audible while working as a sales rep.
Entrepreneurial Beginnings: A Lesson in Business
In 2016, at the age of 29, I launched my first side business with two friends—a lawn-care franchise specializing in fertilization and weed control. Despite our success in growing the business to over 900 customers, we learned firsthand the challenges of managing employees and the hard work required to run a home service business. In 2019, we sold the business, gaining valuable lessons about the complexities of employee-managed enterprises.
Real Estate Ventures: From Duplexes to Vacation Rentals
My real estate journey began in 2017 with the purchase of a duplex, followed by more acquisitions that included a triplex and multiple duplexes. In 2021, I ventured into vacation rentals by acquiring a condo on the Guadalupe River. This new venture quickly became a passion, leading to the scaling of multiple properties across different markets. I'm constantly optimizing our processes to provide the best possible experience for guests. We are also setting up short-term rental management services for select clients.
Raw Land Investments: Building Capital for Growth
While my W2 job provides a stable income, most of the capital for my investments comes from buying and selling raw land. We send out thousands of letters monthly to acquire land for improvement or sale. This business is complex, requiring the collaboration of three equal partners and a virtual coordinator to manage its many moving parts.
Family Support and The Balance of Time
My wife, Marilyn, has been an incredible support system throughout this journey. Balancing family time with business demands is challenging, especially when the very goal of this journey is to own my time and be present for my family. This struggle has shaped my commitment to building businesses that can operate independently of me.
